Event: Global Game Jam 2024

  • Time Limit: 36 hours.
  • Theme: "Bubble"
  • Interpretation: A submarine crashes on the ocean floor, and the crew member's only chance to reach the surface is inside a bubble.

MECHANICS & OBJECTIVE 

The player is inside a bubble; if it pops, they lose. The game consists of clicking around the bubble to push it in the opposite direction. Depending on how close you click, the bubble will move with more or less force. The objective is to reach the surface without the bubble bursting.

MY ROLE & CONTRIBUTION In a team of 8 people, I was in charge of:

  • Production and Game Direction.
  • Level Design and progression.
  • Audio: Gathering and implementing SFX.
  • Technical Art: Creating and assigning materials in Unity.

LESSONS LEARNED

  • What went well: The game was fun and had just the right difficulty to keep the player engaged until they beat the challenge. We won the "Best Game" and "Best Gameplay" awards at our local jam site.
  • The obstacle: Programming was very slow and rushed. We found it difficult to set up the core mechanic and make it functional in time.
